01 · The course

What you will do on this course

VCA (Veiligheid, Gezondheid en Milieu Checklist Aannemers) is a Dutch scheme for checking knowledge of safety, health and environment. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and the Nordic countries a large share of projects require VCA from everyone who sets foot on site. The course works through the requirements and ends with the official exam in front of an SSVV representative; the certificate is issued by the Dutch scheme, not by WINDY BG. There are two exams: B-VCA (Basic) for people working on site, and VOL-VCA for team leaders and supervisors.

Conditions for taking part

Who it is forTechnicians, installers, maintenance and logistics — anyone a site asks VCA of. Team leaders are usually asked for VOL-VCA.
Prior trainingNot required.
DocumentsPhoto ID, mandatory — this is an official exam.
Exam languageDepends on what the examining body offers. Tell us which language you need and we will check before booking you in.

What you will practise

  • You recognise hazards at the workplace and assess the risk instead of sensing it.
  • You know what the VCA requirements ask of you on site, and why.
  • You work with tools, machines and PPE by the rules a site actually checks.
  • You know how to act in a dangerous situation and what prevents one.
  • You go into the exam prepared for its format, not only for the material.

How the day works

An instructor leads a session in front of participants and training equipment.

    The in-person preparation course, in Varna.

    The official exam in front of an SSVV representative, in two sittings — 08:00 and 17:00.

Questions about this course

What is the difference between B-VCA and VOL-VCA?

B-VCA is for people working on site. VOL-VCA is for team leaders and supervisors — sites usually ask for it from anyone responsible for other people.

Is it recognised in Bulgaria?

VCA is a Dutch system and it is employers in Western Europe who ask for it. In Bulgaria it replaces neither GWO training nor any requirement under Bulgarian law.

Do I need VCA if I have GWO?

They are different things. GWO is for the wind industry and is recorded in WINDA; VCA is a general safety check asked for by sites in construction, industry and energy. Some offshore projects want both.

Do both levels run on the same date?

Yes. B-VCA and VOL-VCA run together in October; what differs is the level of the exam and the price.
